I'm walking to New Orleans

Posted By on Thu, Apr 12, 2007 at 6:10 AM

Actually I'm driving, any minute now. A wedding calls me to my first visit to New Orleans since the storm. I fear what I'll find. I'm going to try to send a note or two, but posting will be sporadic until my return Tuesday.

I've got an iPod in my hand with Fats, the Magnificent Seventh brass band, Irma Thomas, Chris Kenner, Harry Connick and plenty more.

If all goes well, I'll be eating some stuffed eggplant at Galatoire's by early afternoon.

Vox, a news website that concerns itself with energy and other issues, has a fine piece, including before and after images, on the history of the U.S. interstate system and why roads were built through the middle of cities (unless people of influence stopped them — see Manhattan, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.)
