Big mistake

Posted By on Sat, Apr 21, 2007 at 3:23 PM

I waited too late to go to the garden store. Approximately half the population of Little Rock was already there. I came away with sacks of rocks and mulch, some peonies and a new gardenia bush (somebody tell me why mine keep dying). But the main purpose of my trip, geraniums, were nowhere to be found. Too early? I'm looking for pink ones. If anyone has seen them in the LR area, tell me where. I also forgot how sore you can get lugging such things up and down steep hillsdides and digging vainly in rocky soil for a deep-enough hole to plant same.

Enough complaining. My excuse for inactivity.

Tonight: Don't forget the Arkansas Times Pub or Perish reading at the Peaboy Hotel. 7 p.m. Cash bar. Lots of good professional writers and some brave volunteers, too, if the phone conversation I heard Pub maestro David Koon conducting Friday are any indication.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
