The debased culture

Posted By on Sat, Apr 21, 2007 at 6:18 AM

Brummett, inspired by a Kansas City columnist, reaches beyond Imus to consider a culture debased by the way people refer to each other. One point: Just because black hip-hop artists use debasing language doesn't mean it's OK for white people to do the same. He addresses, too, a favorite white complaint of the moment -- who made Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton spokesmen for black people? My own two-part answer:: 1) Whites who control the media and 2) the significant number of people who follow them.
