The day before the grand opening of a Mexican consulate in Little Rock that he helped recruit, Mike Huckabee says at a NW Ark. fund-raiser that immigration isn’t the big issue in the Republican primary. Well, the protesters set to be on hand at the consulate today might beg to differ.

This is one of those cases where the good Mike Huckabee has done lives after him, but requires a bit of tap-dancing. Meanwhile, when you read Huckabee, you get no idea that American troops are being killed and wounded by the hundreds in an unnecessary war his party started.

The big issues in the presidential primary are traditional Republican ones: pro-life, pro-family, lower taxes and strong support of the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms. “Candidates who give the wrong answer on any of those questions are going to have a hard time,” Huckabee said.

I think he’s wrong. I think even Republicans care about the war.
