Republican presidential candidates debate shortly on MSNBC. Comments here on the event and general and, of course, the Man from Hope.

Nearing the end of the first hour: Mike Huckabee hasn’t gotten much air time. He finessed a couple of questions. On the war, he said he wouldn’t have waited until after the election to fire Rumsfeld and that the Bush administration had made a “mistake” in not sending 300,000 troops to Iraq in the first place, as generals counseled. But, he said, the U.S. must stay the course, finish the job, etc. Asked if he believed in global warming, he dodged. Whatever the scientists conclude, he said, we must all be good stewards of the earth.

I don’t like him much, but I continue to find Rudy Giuliani impressive. He seems more presidential than the rest. Am I the only one that thinks John McCain is starting to sound a little wacky?

UPDATE: John McCain said he believed in evolution. That prompted a question for a show of hands of any who did NOT believe in evolution. Several raised hands. I couldn’t tell from where I was sitting if Huckabee was one of them, but I thought he was. Did anybody else get a close look?
