Ranking the Repubs

Posted By on Sat, May 5, 2007 at 5:32 AM

Brummett takes a stab at rating debate performance by 10 Republican candidates for president Thursday night.

No. 1 -- Rudy Giuliani.

No. 7 -- Mike Huckabee (who Brummett figures Fred Thompson will quickly drive from the race):

Addicted to one-liners and chronically superficial, the preacher/bass player gets lost in the shuffle. He's not as conservative as some and not as substantive or impressive as others. He's probably still on the radar screen as a possible running mate. After McCain got the direct question, Our Boy Mike was among three raising his hand to signify he doesn't believe in evolution. It's one thing to downplay the science to emphasize a holy creator and cover your religious bases. But to say straight-out you simply don't believe it?
