School daze

Posted By on Tue, May 22, 2007 at 12:18 PM

The Arkansas Blog mentioned this weeks ago, but word on the street is that the official announcement is coming soon, perhaps tomorrow, that Episcopal Collegiate School plans an expansion to include elementary grades. It now offers 6-12. The announcement is said to include news that a significant sum of money has been raised for the expansion. The expansion is likely to be completed within two to three years.

The news will not come without some friction in the Episcopal community. After the Episcopal Diocese declined to sponsor the collegiate high school a few years ago, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral stepped in as sponsor. The new elementary school seems likely to present competition to the 50-year-old PreK-5 Cathedral School at Trinity. Diplomacy will be necessary. Some of the same people who support the cathedral support the collegiate school. These folks would include the Stephens family, major underwriters of the collegiate school.

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
