M.A.D.

You go to war, you best expect the enemy to fire back. So School Board president Katherine Mitchell finds as a district parent sets about unearthing dirt on her and any other board member who favors Superintendent Roy Brooks' ouster. Was she an employee of the district in making $6,000 in 2004 and 2005 to teach courses at Philander Smith for alternative teacher licensure? As a legal matter, it's not clear. As a practical matter, articles in the Democrat-Gazette yesterday and today seem quite clear. She got the money from the district with the help of district employee while she was a member of the School Board. And she apparently didn't disclose the income source on her statement of financial interest.

Let the investigations begin. This one seems merited. You could also say the same for probes of Roy Brooks' financial funny business and his policy and law flouting in the merit pay trickery (subjects not of interest to this particular investigator/parent). Any suggestion that such vendettas will somehow lead to peace is silly. They are the road to ruin.

PS-- Reader Robert Johnston comments:

Let’s take this item off the table by starting ‘a Contributor Fund for Dr. Katherine Mitchell to Repay Disputed $$$ and Get On With Real Business’. I pledge the first $100. That’s how the Aginners would handle this; makes some sense given the situation.
