Sherwood mayor -- UPDATED

Posted By on Tue, Jul 10, 2007 at 6:49 PM

That special election for Sherwood mayor is today. By poll worker count, one politico I talked to seem to like the chances of former Mayor Bill Harmon and City Clerk Virginia Hillman being in the runoff. There's been plenty of controversy, particularly over mass mailings in behalf of the 80-year-old Harmon by evangelical churches that also serve as polling places. Big issue: whether the city should buy a private golf course for municipal use rather than see it redeveloped.

The County Election Commission should release early voting totals at 7:30 p.m. With about 1,100 cast early, that should be a pretty good predictor of the final outcome.

The early vote:

Harmon 409

Hillman 345

Anderson 117

Devine 268

Sierra 4

UPDATE: My politico was right, it's Harmon and Hillman in the runoff, but Hillman leads the ticket. Votes:

Hillman 1252

Harmon 1242

Devine 926

Anderson 403

Sierra 37
