Utterly silly post

Forget serious.  I"m humidity-addled.

I was at the gym  -- excuse me, the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatics Center -- and one of the crew was bemoaning this, his least favorite season. No football. I realized that it's the one sport that still holds enduring appeal for me, too.

One thought led to another. I started thinking about LSU football and my native state's rich cultural diversity, as illustrated on the backs of team jerseys.  I've been goofing off, in other words.

So here, helped by a quick scan of fan websites for some more modern entries, is my All-Time LSU Tiger Name Team, led by my hands-down favorite, a big tackle from Lafayette of the early 1970s, Binks Michotta. Then: Hokie Gajon, Booger McFarland, Nacho Albergamo, Sammy Grezaffi, Joe Labruzzo, Yelverton Abraham Tittle, Tyler Lafauci, Remi Prudhomme, Monk Guillot, Gwain DiBetta, Leroid and Leroyal Jones, Andre LaFleur and Early Doucet.

There is a minor point to this. Anybody care to take a crack at an All-Time Hog Name Team? Or do they all have names like Jerry Jones and Bruce James and Clyde Scott? Fine football players, humdrum names.

  • Cats and dogs

I've always been leery of people who dislike animals. To my wife and me, a house without dog hair in the corners and a cat perched on the windowsill is as barren as a highway rest stop. We're down to three dogs and two cats, the smallest menagerie we've had for years.
