Why did Tim Wooldridge get a $150,000 job?

This remains the political puzzler of the moment: Why a thrashed candidate for a lowly state office who had, at best, a so-so rep as a state legislator, emerges as the richly paid chief of a new lobbying organization for most state universities. Everybody who pays tuition should be squawling about adding yet another college lobbyist to an already huge army.

Les Wyatt, the boss up at Arkansas  State, mentions duplication of effort in explaining to the Jonesboro Sun why ASU (along with Arkansas Tech) decided not to join this combine. He also mentioned the desire to remain independent.

Speculation continues about motivation. Is it to create an in to The Brotherhood? Who will be the first among equals in the partnership -- UAF, UAMS, UCA? I did hear that Wooldridge wasn't the first person approached about the job.
