Flying through airport security

LR National Airport later this month will be adding a commercial service that allows members quicker passage through airport security -- a VIP security check, if you will. All you have to do is pay $100 a year and have your eyeballs and fingerprints scanned. Here's the news release.

I guess I'm just in a bad mood, but this concept leaves me a little sore. Why should you have to pay extra to a private contractor to get special service at a public facility that couldn't exist without jillions in taxpayer money. Why can't the government get into biometric scanning for everybody? And why can the VIPs get away with not taking their shoes off, while the rest of us have to go barefoot. (Not that the average Arkie minds that.)
