Sicko -- UPDATE

Posted By on Sun, Aug 12, 2007 at 8:28 AM

Clip and save this New York Times editorial for the next time somebody from an insurance company tries to tell you how the U.S. has the best health care in the world. It's chapter and verse of the shame of the world's most powerful nation, ranked a lofty 37th in a World Health Organization study.

Insurance coverage. Life expectancy, Ease of seeing doctors. Fairness. Quality. You name it, others do better. We are the only major industrialized company country without universal health care.

UPDATE: Daily Howler notes that the Times failed on a couple of points. 1) It said, erroneously, that Michael Moore had overstated things about care in other countries. 2) In fact, other countries achieve far better results for far less money.

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
