The wheels of justice

Posted By on Wed, Sep 12, 2007 at 5:56 AM

The metaphorical wheels aren't turning at all, much less slowly, in filling the U.S. attorney's slot in Little Rock. U.S. Rep. John Boozman, who sent three names for White House consideration after the Tim Griffin putsch fell apart, says he doesn't have a clue why there's been a delay. Why should he? He's merely the top-ranking Republican in Arkansas and owed maybe a little consideration about why his nominees have been treated shabbily. (Not to mention the non-action on a vacant federal judgeship.)

It's not really a problem. Career prosecutor Jane Duke is acting as U.S. attorney. She could do so for the remainder of Bush's term (now under 500 days). She wouldn't want the permanent appointment because, I'm told, a political appointee couldn't move back into the career ranks afterward.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson apparently felt the burn from KARK's exclusive Tuesday night on his plans to cut state support of War Memorial Stadium in half beginning July 1, 2018. He has a so-far secret plan to make the stadium self-sustaining. We bet that doesn't include state support.
