Reprieve for Bald Knob

Posted By on Mon, Sep 24, 2007 at 3:15 PM

The financially strapped Bald Knob School District dodged immediate annexation this morning after supporters pleaded their case before the state Board of Education. The board voted to give the district until after a scheduled sales tax election in November to show it has the financial resources to continue to exist. The state took over operation of the district last month, dissolving the school board and installing a new superintendent. The district has a $2 million deficit, and supporters told state board members they'd raised $1.5 million of that already.
