Kathy Webb gets a challenger, maybe

Shows what I know. I suggested to Pavel yesterday that frosh Rep. Kathy Webb of Little Rock, who recently had a fund-raiser hosted by Democrats she beat in her first election, might skate without opposition in 2008. It took less than 24 hours to prove me wrong.

Steve Harrelson's Under the Dome says Ed Linck, 29, formerly with the LR Regional Chamber of Commerce and now in sales with LTS Logistics, will challenge Webb. I'll go out on another limb here and say I don't like his chances.

Pavel had speculated Republicans would work hard to find an opponent for Webb if for no other reason than to limit her proven money-raising skills to her benefit and not that of other Democratic candidates. I'm trying to reach Linck. I presume he's a Republican, but don't know that. Here's his MySpace page. Thanks, Lee.

UPDATE: Still no call from Linck, but I'm informed he is a Republican and that he also had an interest in the District 38 seat being vacated by Rep. David Johnson, who's running for Senate. Harrelson has updated his item to say he's talked to Linck and that he's 99.9 percent sure he's running against Webb, though he's still considering a move that would put him in District 38.

UPDATE II: Linck confirms all the above. He currently lives in The Cliffs, downtown condos in Webb's district. But if he makes a move back to a houseboat moored at the Little Rock Yacht Club, he'll be in District 38 and run for that seat. He said he's committed to a legislative run, the only question is which seat. He said he'll talk about issues after he has the basics out of the way.
