Calling all 16 percenters -- UPDATE

Posted By on Wed, Nov 7, 2007 at 5:55 AM

Dick Cheney is coming to Arkansas Nov. 16. Details not announced. And probably won't be until the hand-picked audience is seated in a fortified bunker with a broad security cordon.

GOP Chair Dennis "What we need is another 9/11" Milligan says the visit is a sign Arkansas is pivotal and winnable in 2008. Nah, if that was true, the last thing you'd do is send Cheney.

UPDATE: War protesters, make plans now. The event will be a luncheon at the Women's City Club (now the Junior League building). You'll have to pay $250 a plate to get inside. My tipster gives a 10:30 a.m. start, presumably to get everybody inside the security bubble and fully frisked before Darth arrives.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
