The Huckabee record

Posted By on Wed, Nov 21, 2007 at 3:17 PM

Politico notes, because opponents have started raising questions, that Mike Huckabee leaves a checkered record for integrity in Arkansas. It misses the point, though. The issue isn't so much about the technicality of Ethics Commission complaints -- some sustained, some narrowly beaten, some decided in his favor. It's about a larger record of unseemliness. He turned public service into a grabfest and bitterly resented those who raised questions about it. THAT is the issue. It is to laugh, however, when he accuses the Ethics Commission of being a Democratic tool when its members were bipartisan appointees and one chairman, Candi Russell, gave him the deciding vote on one of his indiscretions then promptly went to work for state government on his recommendation.
