Life and death

Of course Gov. Mike Beebe won't pardon the West Memphis Three because a Dixie Chick and others present him petitions today. Courts are considering the case and will do so for years to come. But, come the day -- after extensive worldwide publicity about the manifest unfairness of their convictions amid Satan hysteria and with an utter lack of physical evidence -- will he sign Damien Echols' death warrant? THAT, I submit, is the question, if not one for today.
