Oil hits $100 a barrel

Posted By on Wed, Jan 2, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Anybody want to build some suburban subdivisions?

With prices double where they were a year ago, it doesn't seem a good bet. The $100 benchmark? It could mean $4/gallon regular by spring.

I burn premium, so it'll come for me sooner. The $50 fillup has already arrived, and then some. In fact, I'm a little hacked at the service station by the Med Center for instituting a $50 limit on purchases. I have to swipe the card a second time to finish the job.

UPDATE: A lobbyist of my acquaintance says I shouldn't blame the gas station, but credit card company rules, for the limit on credit card purchases at gas stations. It's one of a wide range of credit card rules advantageous to them but decidedly disadvantageous to merchants and,  thus, often consumers. There's been congressional testimony on some of them, such as holds the credit card companies put on debit cards that sometimes cause bounced checks or denied critical purchases even when customers have adequate funds on deposit to cover.
