NLR's mothball fleet and more

Posted By on Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 7:44 AM

The excitable folks at the Levy Project say this week's Times of North Little Rock is loaded with good stuff about Argenta doings. Unfortunately, their website hasn't been updated yet.

HAYS' NAVY: Apparently there's a report on the vast sums spent in the so-far-unsuccessful effort to move a scrapped Navy tugboat (that's the Hoga above at Pearl Harbor) to join the motley assortment of not-so-seaworthy vessels littering the North Little Rock riverfront. And apparently a question about what Levy Project calls a "slush fund" for this purpose.

ARABIAN NIGHTS: Another report concerns the dramatic increase in reports of shots fired in the city, this in part due to the rising popularity of firing guns to celebrate events such as New Year's Eve.

When the website is posted, I'll add some links.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
