He likes Mike UPDATE

Mark Shields thinks Mike Huckabee served himself well with his presidential candidacy:

Most people who run for president, by definition, lose. And most of those unsuccessful candidates depart the presidential contest with their reputations and their influence diminished.

Republican Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor — whose chances of winning his party's nomination are closer to none than to slim — will be a conspicuous exception. He will leave the race more popular and more influential than he entered it and with the real potential of becoming the most important evangelical leader in American political life

NOT HIS FIRST RODEO: Huck meets the press after his CPAC appearance today. And here's another road report: Not expecting much in Louisiana and Washington today (where Janet McCain Huckabee appeared for him), but hopeful about Kansas. Fox News said he "electrified" the crowd.

UPDATE: Huckabee indeed won the Kansas caucus and all of that state's 36 delegates with 60 percent of some 19,000 votes. Results here, but the server has been overloaded with happy Huckabites logging in. More here.
