We repeat: No gas rate increase UPDATE

Posted By on Mon, Mar 3, 2008 at 5:45 AM

Stephens Media today has its own story on a subject that we mentioned was reported in depth Sunday by the Democrat-Gazette's Seth Blomeley. And it can't be repeated enough: A severance tax increase won't increase the cost of gas to consumers.

On that subject: I stumbled across this letter in the Conway paper in which the local chamber of commerce president details the job boom the shale exploration has brought.

UPDATE: Belatedly posted because of a production glitch is Brummett's column on Gov. Mike Beebe's secret negotiations on a severance tax compromise.

The conversion of a national debate on race is an apt commentary for the 60th anniversary of the Little Rock school crisis and the city's effort to sell it as an occasion to laud progress. Progress would be someone talking about the elephant in the room — the white establishment's takeover of the majority black Little Rock School District.
