The law east of the Cache

Posted By on Thu, Mar 13, 2008 at 1:31 PM

Circuit Judge L.T. Simes, has been reversed on a bit of East Arkansas home cooking. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled today that theft charges should not have been dismissed against West Helena city officialas who authorized pay for themselves after they left office. Simes had dismissed the charges on account of a defective arrest warrant. The Supreme Court said that wasn't sufficient ground to bar prosecution. (There were seven separate appeals, one for each city official charged. I've linked the opinion in one case by Chief Justice Jim Hannah.)

I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
