It appears the majority of the U.S. Supreme Court is quite ready to declare a person’s right to own a gun. But, as the New York Times notes, that’s the easy part. How much regulation of gun ownership is allowed. Surely an originalist like Scalia would say the right only extends to muskets and flintlock pistols — shoulder-fired rockets, AK-47s, etc., not having been invented back when the Second Amendment was drafted.
