Dillard's/CDI/Glasgow etc.

Posted By on Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 7:10 PM

We caught wind of this early in the week, but, surprise, neither Dillard's nor CDI would return our calls on the subject.

Talk Business has the news now on Dillard's shopping its stake in CDI Contractors, the giant construction firm that grew out of a partnership between Dillard's Department Stores and the late Bill Clark.

As everyone knows, the relationship has become difficult. The chief financial officer of CDI, John Glasgow, disappeared in late January in the midst of some friction with Dillard's over 1) accounting practices and 2) plans for reworking ownership of CDI after the death of founder Bill Clark. Here's a quick recent primer.

Realistically, it is hard to see now how the old partnership can survive.

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
