Library continues to discuss cuts

Posted By on Tue, May 13, 2008 at 12:31 PM

The Central Arkansas Library System's finance committee met this morning to discuss possible cuts we reported last week. The committee approved moving forward with those cuts should a ruling in the library's friendly lawsuit find it can't spend money in 2008 that voters approved in December 2007.

The cuts would be to 2008 operational expenses and would only affect Little Rock branches. Library Director Bobby Roberts stressed at today's meeting that the library may have to shut some branches for the duration of 2008 if needed cuts turn out to be deeper than expected. He said that decision would depend on the May millage and probably wouldn't come until August.

The full library board is scheduled to meet again May 22.
