The animal cruelty lobby

Posted By on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 8:08 AM

John Brummett today explains some of the reasons Arkansas is one of the last holdouts on meaningful animal cruelty legislation. Some of it, sure, is the Poultry Federation's and Farm Bureau's "camel's nose in the tent" fears. As if PETA will shortly require a vegetables-only diet in Arkansas by constitutional amendment.

But some of it, too, is that there's a certain number of people who simply want to reserve the right to kill dogs and cats without fear of prosecution. Not a pretty picture.
