Same old, same old

An incumbent Republican congressman faces a strong challenge in Missouri from the former Kansas City mayor. Right off the bat, he goes (above) to the trusty beat-up-the-queers Republican playbook, with a racially tinged backbeat.

The Democratic candidate's sober response (below) has a great deal more heft, seems to me. Right or wrong?
