Conway recount UPDATE

Posted By on Fri, May 23, 2008 at 1:06 PM

Tipster says Linda Tyler won the recount for the hard-fought Democratic primary race in Conway for state House District 45. My note says she beat Terry Fiddler 792 to 764.

This is the race we mentioned earlier, in which Tyler supporters argued that Fiddler was a Republican running as a Democrat for political reasons. Supporter of Republican Sen. Gil Baker, former U.S. Sen. Tim Hutchinson, etc.

UPDATE: I've confirmed the recount with a member of the county election commission. Fiddler was reportedly distraught at the news. Tyler was refunded her fee for the cost of the recount since it changed the outcome.

State Auditor Andrea Lea, who began her tenure in statewide office with a degree of competence unseen in some other Republican counterparts (think Treasurer Dennis Milligan particularly), is becoming more deeply mired in a political scandal.

You want to hear the words of a strong mayor? Read the speech delivered by New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu on the removal of the last of four Lost Cause tributes in the city. THIS is a strong mayor. Brilliant.

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
