Frontier justice on gas

Posted By on Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 7:27 PM

A Rudy man shot someone he says he saw stealing gasoline from a parked car Sunday night. I don't think the law gives you freedom to shoot gas siphoners, not even at $4 a gallon. But this is western Arkansas .... (Thought: If the sharpshooter could shoot to kill with impunity -- so far the man has survived his wounds, however -- perhaps we are not far from the return of necktie parties on the range.) Whatever else, police are already quite clear that the alleged gas thief will be charged.

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has denied a new permit for the C&H Hog Farms' concentrated animal feeding operation near Mount Judea (Newton County).
