Having it both ways

Posted By on Sat, Jun 7, 2008 at 6:07 AM

That would be Sen. Gilbert Baker, writes John Brummett. Baker claims bipartisanship while he signs off on slashing attack advertising against Mike Beebe; while he decries "Little Rock Democrats" (read that any way you want -- queers, blacks, liberals, your favorite bogeyman); while he brings in The Huckster to womp on Democrats some more. Overlooked in Brummett's recitation is the big fund-raiser Baker had early in his campaign featuring a clandestine trip to Conway by Karl Rove, the master of Republican gutter politics. Democratic Sen. Bob Johnson may not be troubled by all this, as he tells Brummett, but just what does his claim of Democratic Party affiliation mean, exactly?
