Ark. and the race for No. 2

Posted By on Sun, Jun 8, 2008 at 11:28 AM

Andrew DeMillo writes this week about the three people with Arkansas links at least nominally in the running for vice presidential slots -- Hillary Clinton and Wesley Clark on the Democratic side and Mike Huckabee on the Republican side. Huckabee has explanation for the heavy representation by Arkies in the veepstakes -- they've been fire-tested.

"Nothing I experienced running for president was nearly as brutal and savage as running a race in Arkansas," Huckabee said last week. "The politics in this state are far more difficult and challenging in terms of sheer bare-knuckle come at you with your head than anything I experienced at the national frame."

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
