If you haven’t seen it already, you’ll want to read the Democrat-Gazette account of activity in former U.S. Sen. Tim Hutchinson’s divorce case. His former wife Donna’s effort to find out more about his financial situation has led, as he hoped, to a release of some of her correspondence and freed him to talk publicly about circumstances of the divorce.

In short, Donna Hutchinson wrote scathing e-mails in the course of working against her husband’s re-election in 2002. Said one of her e-mails:

“Please do not send me any more ‘trashings of Bill Clinton’ until the Accountability group does something about Tim,” she said in the e-mail. “We are beating sinners over the heads with the ten commandments and ignore our leaders that are arrogantly breaking them. Sure, drooling over Clinton’s sin may stir the troops to political action, but that is not what the Holy Spirit wants from his church.”

And Hutchinson, who married a former top aide, Randi Fredholm, addresses squarely the question of whether he had an affair with her while married. He says no.

His  electoral loss, by the way, led to a lucrative lobbying career. Required to pay 22 percent of his income annually to his ex, he’s been sending state Rep. Donna about $100,000.
