We already have a lottery

Posted By on Sat, Jun 14, 2008 at 6:17 AM

So writes John Brummett about the state Racing Commission's laughable approval of keno at state racinos as a "game of skill." It's a lottery. Not the Brummett minds gambling at the Southland and Oaklawn racinos.

People are going to gamble. They were gambling already at those locations. Both facilities are important to their regional economies.

It's the charade, the hypocrisy and the emergence of the wink and nod as our official state signals - that's what galls. We pretend to be pristine, like a prostitute with a see-through, quick-release chastity belt.

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
