The perils of privatization

Krugman has a good explainer on the importance of a Medicare vote in the Senate this week. We can hope that expanded Democratic margins in 2009 will drive a stake through the heart of the Republican efforts to privatize Medicare, a financially ruinous idea that is also ruinous in the long run to universal care, particularly for the poorest Americans.
