Speaking of shale

Posted By on Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 6:40 AM

Louisiana folks, in the Haynesville shale, are striking it rich, too. The NY Times reports this morning. As usual, it's all about the money. Couldn't possibly be any downsides. But speaking of money: the article quotes lease prices up to $30,000 an acre. Could be the formation is much richer in Louisiana. But I wonder how the Arkies who sold their mineral rights for a few hundred an acre feel about the gas companies now that Chesapeake has paid thousands an acre to drill in Arkansas wildlife areas.
