Since it’s almost next door and since he’s one of our favorites: Morgan Freeman was seriously injured in a one-car wreck on a Mississippi highway last night and airlifted to Mempis for treatment.

Jim Harris reported for the Times on a visit with Freeman at his Mississippi restaurant back in 2003.

UPDATE: A reliable source of long standing passes along an e-mail from someone my source says is close to Freeman. Asked if Freeman was OK, the friend responded: “Yes, very lucky..just a broken arm and shoulder, with minor cuts and bruises.” I know. Unsourced, third-hand. But there you have it. And now comes an updated report that adds an elbow to the injuries.
