Morgan Freeman in Delta wreck -- UPDATE

Posted By on Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 11:43 AM

Since it's almost next door and since he's one of our favorites: Morgan Freeman was seriously injured in a one-car wreck on a Mississippi highway last night and airlifted to Mempis for treatment.

Jim Harris reported for the Times on a visit with Freeman at his Mississippi restaurant back in 2003.

UPDATE: A reliable source of long standing passes along an e-mail from someone my source says is close to Freeman. Asked if Freeman was OK, the friend responded: "Yes, very lucky..just a broken arm and shoulder, with minor cuts and bruises." I know. Unsourced, third-hand. But there you have it. And now comes an updated report that adds an elbow to the injuries.

I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
