On your dime

Posted By on Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 2:39 PM

A reader earlier today mentioned some unpleasant e-mail originating from a state e-mail account. I have copies now of the racist stuff, which was sent under the e-mail address of a staff member in the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Division.

Anybody in a position of authority there know?

Anybody care?

Sample: Knock-knock joke turns on the punchline of a cartoon Barack Obama speaking in broad black dialect -- "Eyes yo' new president." Another: Photo of a truck overloaded with black people, with the legend: "Guess what. Family members are already heading to the White House for a visit." Really side-splitting. Instructive, though. This blind ignorance gives you a little understanding of the hill the candidate still must climb in ever-so-enlightened post-racial 21st century America.

UPDATE: ABC Director Michael Langley said the agency is investigating the matter.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
