ASU's rising tide

Posted By on Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 4:33 PM

The tide that liftedArkansas State University President Les Wyatt's compensation over $500,000, to the very top rank among Arkansas college administrators, doesn't seem to have lifted the little boats down below.

The Wall Street Journal reports on salaries of graduates of some 300 U.S. colleges and universities. ASU ranks 24th from the bottom in median salaries earned by new graduates (at $38,700 vs. UA at $44,100 and UA-Monticello at $39,200) and low in other rankings as well, such as 20th from the bottom at mid-career median pay of $63,300 (vs. $82,800 at UA and $74,500 for the Boll Weevils). Maybe the UAM chancellor should be knocking down 500 Gs, too.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that an ethics complaint has been filed saying that the exploratory committee Rep. Warwick Sabin created to prepare for a run for Little Rock mayor was a subterfuge to avoid the city ordinance that doesn't allow campaign fundraising to begin until five months before the November 2018 election.Of course it is.

  • City ethics update; campaign limit was supposed to help the little guy

Some more history on the Little Rock city ordinance that limits candidates for mayor and City Board to raising campaign funds to five months before the November 2018 election. It raises questions not only about Warwick Sabin's fund-raising tactics, but also Mayor Mark Stodola's carryover money.
