Edwards fesses up UPDATE

Posted By on Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 2:12 PM

Yes, he had an affair. The National Enquirer nails another one. Or at least part of it, maybe. He says he didn't love his paramour (Rielle Hunter, pictured) and disclaims paternity of her child. Maybe somebody paid her some money, he indicates. Cad.

From ABC re paternity:

Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby's birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father.

What sells in America? S-e-x. The NY Times blog post on this item had more than 400 comments a couple of hours after it was posted. By contrast, a much older post about Hillary Clinton's role at the Democratic National Convention -- the nearly non-stop topic of cable TV shouters this week -- had drawn only 72 comments. It suggests, too, that maybe the public isn't as obsessed with Clintonalia as the Washington media.

UPDATE: Elizabeth Edwards statement.

  • Donald Trump is historically unpopular — and not necessarily where you think

My colleagues John Ray and Jesse Bacon and I estimate, in the first analysis of its kind for the 2018 election season, that the president's waning popularity isn't limited to coastal cities and states. The erosion of his electoral coalition has spread to The Natural State, extending far beyond the college towns and urban centers that voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. From El Dorado to Sherwood, Fayetteville to Hot Springs, the president's approval rating is waning.
