Here's a report from Michigan's Bay City Times on that state's efforts to ban the use of  polybrominated diphenyl ethers, or PBDE. A flame retardant used for decades in everything from furniture to computers, the chemical has been the subject of nationwide concern in recent years, given that it has a tendency to migrate into the bloodstream, turning up in both humans and fish. PBDE can be passed to children through breast milk, and laboratory tests have linked it to cancer and other ailments.

Does anyone wanna venture a guess where the last two remaining U.S. manufacturers of PBDE are located?
