Shale situationer

Posted By on Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 9:56 AM

The NY Times has an interesting front-page article on the national development of shale reserves for natural gas. It could be a boon as an alternative to oil. But:

1) Production is growing so rapidly that prices have dropped 40 percent from their peak. This has implications on which exploration is most profitable.

2) Some deposits are viewed as more lucrative than others.

3) There is aconcern about water use and disposal of drilling waste, both issues that can affect groundwater.

4) Gas companies are looking for tax incentives.

Again, money is good. But there can be fallout.
