There will soon be a new player in the Arkansas shale game. Energy giant BP announced today that they're buying a 25 percent stake in Chesapeake Energy's Fayetteville Shale operations for $1.9 billion.

The deal: $1.1 billion in cash, with the balance paid by way of funding $800 million of  Chesapeake's drilling expenditures in Arkansas.
