Who's greedy

Posted By on Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 9:24 AM

A Republican reader comments disparagingly about Mike Huckabee's newfound role as the scourge of greedheads. Remember his statement this week on the bailout?

"Frankly, I'm disappointed and disgusted with my own Republican party as I watch them attempt to strong-arm a bailout of some of America's biggest corporations by asking the taxpayers to suck up the staggering results of the hubris, greed, and arrogance of those who sought to make a quick buck by throwing the dice."

Readers note that Huckabee made the comment during a week in which he solicited contributions to a PAC, which, if history is a guide, will mostly serve to enhance his profile and his family's standard of living. He made the comment after an unprecedented era of grabbiness as governor of Arkansas. Whether it was for Taco Bell takeout, free dry cleaning, furniture, china, bass boats or trips galore, The Huckster always had his hand out. And who could forget what he said when someone suggested that he might be a candidate for more public service as a member of a McCain cabinet:

"Why would I want to do that?" Huckabee says. "I'm gonna have a good life out here in the private sector," he says. "Why would I go back to telling everybody in the world how much money I make and ... barely surviving to have some obscure cabinet post and have some 20-year-old from the White House telling me what I'm gonna do?"

Hubris? Greed? Arrogance? Good words for the newest Fox News star to toss around.
