Who won the debate, Part II?

After a day of spinning, I think it's safe to say that it's about a tossup. But what I don't understand is how the candidate that's behind can claim a tie is a win for the trailing candidate. If you're still behind, you're still behind.

A lot of commentators didn't like the unpleasant, condescending, hectoring John McCain. A "jerk," says here. That could prove the enduring narrative, if there's any. Viewers got it. And didn't like it.
