Special handling in NLR

Posted By on Fri, Oct 3, 2008 at 8:31 AM

Argenta News is fired up by a story broken this week by The Times of North Little Rock (how about quicker posting of your website, guys?) and followed up this morning by the Democrat-Gazette.

Municipal Judge Jim Hamilton gave sweetheart treatment (a negligible $25,000 bond) to a man acccused of beating a homeless man to death with a bat. Did the accused's relationship to a prominent NLR lawyer have anything to do with it? Yes.

Compare that with the bond ($250,000) and still-pending criminal charges slapped on a guy NLR police nearly killed because he drew a non-functioning gun when cops busted down his door unannounced to search for drugs that didn't exist on the word of an informant nobody can find. Too bad that poor soul didn't have a lawyer brother. In intensive care, he wasn't exactly an escape risk.
