Early voting: The rush continues

Posted By on Tue, Oct 21, 2008 at 3:53 PM

The "unprecedented" rush to early vote in Pulaski County continues. The pace is about 600 people per hour on the 60 machines in operation at branch libraries and the county offices at Markham and Broadway. If that continues, it means 6,000 to 7,000 per day for 12 days of early voting. There will be one additional day only at the county offices, the Monday before the Nov. 4 election. So the early turnout could top 70,000. More than 50,000 voted early in 2004, but the heavy days of 6,000 to 7,000 voters didn't occur until the latter part of the early voting period, Election Commissioner Kent Walker said.
