Beebe: No on lottery

Posted By on Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 2:01 PM

Gov. Mike Beebe voted against the state lottery today (and had to wait in line in Searcy). Spokesman Matt DeCample said: "He saw both sides. He could see the benefits of the scholarships and capturing money that's now going across the borders. At the same time, he could see the negative impact on people who spend money on lottery that they need to be spending on other things."

Said DeCample, "In the end, the potential impact on people who can't afford it, especially as we get toward tougher times .... I think that weighed out a little more."
