Taxes are good for your health

A study in Alaska from 28 years of data shows that every increase in the tax on alcohol was followed by a drop in alcohol-related deaths.

I guess if we made the grocery tax high enough, we'd all be skinny.

The alcohol tax rates in Alaska, versus those in Arkansas (parenthesis), as of Jan. 1, 2008:

Spirits tax -- $12.80 per gallon ($2.58)

Table wine -- $2.50 per gallon (77 cents)

Beer tax -- $1.07 per gallon (21 cents)
